Cairns is around 1,700km from our Kunda Park depot — about two to three days driving each way along the Queensland east coast. Sunshine Coast Bus Lines (SCBL) handles this kind of long-distance Queensland touring on a multi-day basis: tour-style itineraries with planned overnight stops, driver rotation per NHVR fatigue rules, and groups travelling together the whole way.
Common touring routes north include stopovers at Hervey Bay or Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, the Whitsundays, and Townsville on the way up, with similar return-leg stops. Cairns city base, Great Barrier Reef boat-trip transfers, Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Kuranda Scenic Railway. Most reef trips depart from Cairns or Port Douglas, so most touring groups use Cairns as the regional base.
Drive north to Port Douglas, the Daintree Rainforest, and Cape Tribulation. World-heritage rainforest with rainforest walks, river cruises, and reef-meets-rainforest experiences. Common day trip from a Cairns base.
